Fastest way to use AI functions inside Excel

If you are like most people, you probably were asking ChatGPT on how create certain functions or formulas in Excel to complete specific tasks. Then you would paste the formula in your Excel Sheet and run it on your data to generate the results you need. This process saves you some time. What if there was an easier and faster way to use AI — Artificial Intelligence functions directly in Excel? That means, you can write a formula in the formula bar using AI engine such as ChatGPT directly in your sheet without having to jump to ChatGPT app and copying and pasting?

In this article I will show you how to do just that. For example, imagine you have a cell in your Excel sheet which has content in English, and you want to translate it to Spanish. All you need to do is go to the same excel sheet, choose and empty cell and type: =AI.translate([prompt cell], [spanish]) and hit enter automatically the content will be translated to you in Spanish in the destination cell in the Excel sheet.

Here are the steps to do it:

  1. Open your Excel file, and go to Add Ons on the top right

2. Click on Adds and search for ChatGPT for Excel

3. Click on ChatGPT for Excel and add it to your Excel Tool bar.

4. You should then see the ChatGPT for Excel on the tool bar on the top right:

This will automatically load up the AI() formula functions that you can use directly into your Excel sheets.

5. Go to your content that is written in English.

6. Click on an empty cell on the bottom, and enter the following: =AI.translate([click cell of content], [click cell ‘Spanish’]) and hit enter.

7. You will see the content automatically popup as Spanish in the destination cell that you selected. It is that simple.

Here is a Youtube video that shows the steps live.

The same AI() function can also automatically fill out data based on corresponding data as prompt. For example you may have a list of five items of cities and their countries, and you want to generate the remaining Cities and their corresponding countries you can use the AI.fill([prompt]) and hit enter.
